Valeria describing her experience in Malta

  • Can you please describe your day in Malta visiting the hotels in Valletta?

In the morning we reached the Phoenicia Hotel by bus and, once we were there, the company representative guided us the hotel and the way it is run. Then we have been shown the rooms and the restaurants they have. After that, we had a lunch break of an hour and we went shopping in Valletta. Following our break, we were taken to the Excelsior Hotel and there we were able to do a tour of the whole hotel.

  • Did you enjoy these visits and what were the most interesting aspects of this activity for Alternanza Scuola Lavoro?

Yes, it was really interesting for me, because I don’t have always the chance to see and visit a five star hotel! That’s why I was really impressed by these gorgeous places and even by their services. I think it’s useful if you want to run a hotel in the future, or maybe work in one.

  • Please briefly describe your impressions with regards to the Phoenicia Hotel.

At first I was not really amazed by the entrance, because it seemed like other hotels which I have seen before. But, when I walked in and saw the spacious hall, I understood why it is a five star hotel. This hotel offers a lot of services and beautiful rooms with amazing views of Malta, but the thing that impressed me the most was the theatre, where the young Queen Elizabeth used to have her meals. The company representative also took us outside and showed us the huge gardens that surround the hotel, which are really well maintained.

  • Please briefly describe your impressions with regards to the Excelsior Hotel.

Well, the first thing that I noticed was its size, because this hotel is just… enormous. In fact, in order to move from a stair to another, we had to use the elevator several times. I was also really amazed by its pools and the indoor gym. An interesting thing that I noticed was that every room and every restaurant has got their themes, for example the Spice Island, which is an Asian restaurant, that changes the menu every week (chinese, indian, and so on) to offer a better service to the guests.

  • Would you recommend to your friends and relatives to stay at one of the hotels visited and if yes why?

Well, I would recommend these hotels maybe for a wedding or a honeymoon, because both of them are really good. But, personally, I’d prefer to stay in the Phoenicia Hotel because it’s not that big as the Excelsior Hotel, and it’s not so crowded, and I like quiet places.

  • Do you have any suggestion for the hotels’ management with regards to their services or possible improvements if applicable?

I would say that both the hotels could offer lower prices, maybe better rates to everyone.

But, if I have to be more specific, speaking of the Excelsior Hotel, the rooms should be more aired and maybe more fresh. Also, the windows of the restaurants should not be covered with tinted glasses, I would have preferred to see more gymnasiums and playing areas for kids.
