- Can you describe your day in Malta visiting the hotels in Valletta?
Yesterday we did a tour of the two most important hotels in Malta. We reached the Phoenicia Hotel by bus, then we went to the Excelsior Hotel by walking, because they are pretty near to each other.
We visited the Phoenicia Hotel in the morning; between the first visit and the second, we had a lunch break in which we went around in Valletta. In the afternoon, instead, we visited the Excelsior and after the tour we returned to our host families.
- Did you enjoy these visits and what were the most interesting aspects of this activity for Alternanza Scuola Lavoro?
Yes, I definitely enjoyed the visits, also because I’ve never done something like this before, and I think that this could be usefull for the students that are studying tourism at school, but we actually don’t have these subjects in our classes. Anyway, it was an interesting experience for me.
- Please briefly describe your impressions with regards to the Phoenicia Hotel
The first impression that I had when the bus left us in front the hotel, was of pure magnificence. From the outside, the hotel looks really gorgeous and when we walked inside my expectations weren’t disapponted: the intern part was smashing and the thing that impressed me the most was the brightness of the places and its huge spaces.
The company representative was really nice and showed us with a very professional way all bedrooms, the hall and the restaurants, and focused on the historical importance of the Hotel. The building isn’t very big because the strong point are the services.
He also showed us the big gardens and the pool with an amazing view that I particularly appreciate.
- Please briefly describe your impressions with regards to the Excelsior Hotel.
I have to admit that when we went to the Excelsior Hotel I was pretty tired, so maybe I didn’t enjoy the visit too much. Anyway, the company representative was very polite and professional and offered us a long tour of the hotel, which is really huge. At the entrance there was a gorgeous stairway that reminded me the one from a castle or a ferry. […]
- Stay at one of the hotels visited and if yes why?
Both the hotels have got a brilliant organisation in order to offer the best and only the best to their guests, so it’s hard to choose one of them. But if my friends or relatives could afford a Hotel like these, and I’m not sure about that, I think that I would recommend the Phoenicia Hotel, because of its amazing enviroment. The staff is really welcoming and friendly because they decided to focus on this and even if it does not seem really important it’s the key of the success.
- Do you have any suggestion for the hotels’ management with regards to their services or possible improvements if applicable?
Honestly it is hard to find something wrong in these hotels, also because I definitely haven’t the right competence to judge them. Anyway, as a visitor, I’d say that the outside of the Excelsior should be restored because it doesen’t give justice to the inside. Also the fornitures are really dark and oldfashioned, but its only matter of tastes, I think. Speaking of the Phoenicia, I prefer the sobriety of the restaurants instead of the style full of columns and white arches of the entrance, because I think that is more elegant and fits more the Hotel.
